Animal House Officers
Major: Philosophy (Minor in Food Studies)
We started fostering Mimosa and her 6 day old kittens in April 1998, and she was adopted on June 9, 1998.
She had 5 kittens. One died before we got her (poor thing fell out of the cage onto the floor and never recovered). So we took care of her and her kittens (3 male and 1 female). Meet the babies on our foster pages for January-May 1998.
Since we kept Mimosa and her family for 8 weeks they had several weeks of visitation with Megan and Maubee. Mimosa got along well with our oldest cat Megan (who is very discriminating!) and we all loved her gentle sweet disposition. So after some second-guessing, etc. we finally decided she belonged here permanently. Mimosa has a princess mentality and we don't discourage her from it.
She is a beautiful medium hair cat, and was only 7 lbs when we first got her. She loves to talk and she loved to eat so much so that she blossomed a little too quickly at first. These days she is more relaxed about food and even though she is very vocal about an empty bowl, she doesn't overindulge and is off her diet food. She is pretty calm and laid back but friendly and playful too, a great combination. She gets along well with our cats and any fosters she gets to meet. She is the one cat that gets mad at us when we go on vacation. She'll give us the cold shoulder for a few days after we get back. Mosey is smart, sweet, talkative, funny and entertaining and we are so glad we had the room/resources to keep her. The vet thinks she was born approximately January 1997 (or earlier).
This picture shows her 'before' on top when we were fostering her and 'after' in the lower half, several months of good food and spoiling later.
Mimosa took over as rush chairman since Maubee has become an old (but lovable) grouch. She is always willing to meet a new friend, feline or not.
Major: Liberal Arts, also very active in many sports.
Jadzia is another foster mom that we kept for a long time and finally adopted. We fostered her from September 1998 to June 5, 1999 (when we adopted her). We did try to take her back to the shelter for adoption when her kittens were ready in Nov 98, but she was a different cat there. She was totally unhandleable and they would have had to euthanize her. We took her back thinking to find her a home ourselves once we worked a little on getting her more used to being picked up, but of course we ended up falling in love her. She gets along great with the other cats (well Maubee complains, but she really is nice to him). She also absolutely adores people once she gets over her initial shyness.
(It was too tough to give this one up) You can read about her kittens on the foster page for June-December 1998. She is so small and kitten-like that she was an unlikely mom, especially to have 7 kittens!
We thought Jadzia could try being Rush Chairman since Maubee decided to retire and she absolutely loves all of our cats. But unfortunately she hasn't been very hospitable when meeting any of the foster cats we've had so instead she gets to be activities director. She makes sure the other cats all keep busy. It is strange she is so nasty to the visitors since she's the one cat that would come up and sleep next to our Meggie, ignoring the dire threats of hissing etc. Megan gradually succumbed to Jadzia's charms just like the rest of us have. Megan loves a good game of chase and Jadzia is great at it. Jadzia adores Mimosa and they sleep together, groom each other and wrestle often. Maubee...well he is kind of an old grouch about Jadzia. She loves to pounce his tail, but he certainly twitches it temptingly! She also will follow him everywhere, much to his annoyance.
Even though her size and playfulness made her seem very much like a eight-month-old kitten, the vet thought she was older. Just the birthdate of her kittens dates her to at least January 1998, but if the vet is correct she was born approx. July 1996. Her kittenish nature isn't fading at all in all the time we've had her.
